=Menopause Management

Here is good news for women!Take menopause easy. Now, it can be managed effectively. One has to be prepared mentally well in advance.Menopause is a very natural process. One need not be scared of it.Around 45 years of age, due to the diminishing oestrogen hormone, menstruation stops in women and the ovaries stop producing eggs. This state is called Menopause. As the oestrogen hormone is also essential for maintaining the overall health of a woman, its shortage causes some ailments too in many women. In other words, menopause can be considered to be an "oestrogen- hormone deficiency ailment" in women. As said earlier, oestrogen maintains health, and its deficiency could cause certain ill-effects which influence the quality of life adversely.

This situation can become very traumatic for a woman, if it is not taken care of and handled properly.Woman are susceptible and fall prey very easily to psychological and mental stresses. Therefore, it is necessary to counter the symptoms of menopause, namely hot flushes, sweatings, headache, backache, arthritis and weight gain, wisely.

Distressing Disorders:
The prospect of "aging" strikes a woman tremendously and menopause, therefore, leaves a definite scar on her mental, psychological and physical make-up.Psychologically, menopause starts hurting a woman because during her reproductive years, a woman's body secreted oestrogen hormone but as its production decreases during menopause, she starts feeling weak and insecure.Manifold problems silently creep into the life of the middle-aged woman.Menopause brings with it low self-esteem and a series of distressing disorders.Physically, oestrogen deficiency can cause the following:
1.Osteoporosis, that is, the developement of porousness in bones, which could result in fractures of hip bone, wrists, spine, etc.
2.Heart diseases and coronary artery diseases.
3.Neuro-degenerative atrophic changes of the urino-genital organs which lead to poor control of urine, diminished libido, and other sexual problems.
4.Arthritis, muscular degeneration, lower gut colon cancer.
Menopause is manifested in the form of vasomotor instability, resulting in complaints like irritation, hot flushes, sweatings, palpitation, depression, frequent headache, bachache, tiredness, insomnia, weight gain, paraesthesia, loss of appetite, a sensation of pins and needles in the extremeties, fibrositis and osteoarthritis(a form of arthritis in which the cartilages of the joints and adjacent bones are worn away).

Best Treatment
Hormone Replacement Therapy(HRT) is the best treatment for overcoming oestrogen deficiency and treating menopause-related problems. In this therapy, oestrogen is imbibed additionally in different forms, such as oral tablets, injectables, gels and creams. However HRT should be practised under expert guidance only.If not done properly it can have side-effects such as weight gain, irregular bleeding, nausea, vomiting and chest pain.If oestrogen is taken with another hormone called progesterone, the chances of uterine cancer are reduced considerably.According to a recent research, it has been proved that an additional intake of oestrogen hormone reduces the risk of breast cancer and osteoporosis- induced fractures too in 70% cases of menopausal women.

Naturotherapy
Naturotherapy should also be given a chance because nature is a dynamic force which has magical but simple cures for many ailments. Most importantly, a woman undergoing menopause should change her lifestyle for the better. This involves stress management, taking up hobbies according to personal choice, giving special attention to diet, and adjusting calorie intake according to one's daily activity.

Due to lower metabolism at this time, calories should be reduced. The diet needs to be full of nutrient rich ingredients, supplemented with a lot a proteins together with other minerals and multi-vitamins, especially calcium and iron, to prevent anaemia.Meals should include curd, lemon, leafy vegetables, tomato, carrot, beetroot and fruits like orange.Eating green vegetables and seasonal fruits should be made a habit.Fibrous foods together with vitamins A,C, D and E will help a lot.Fat and cholesterol rich food should be avoided.Besides, tea, cofee and aerated drinks tobacco consumption, drinking alcohol and smoking should be minimised or entirely given up.

Exercises will also help.Walking at optimal speed is a good and safe exercise. It will take care of loss of appetite, insomnia, flatulence etc.It will aso improve digestion and treat constipation.

If menopause is understood properly, it can be managed and life can be enjoyed even beyond 50 years of age.

I have also read that women that had a good attitude about this enivetable change had less symptoms and an easier time. I had always heard horror stories and was scared to death, but due to my positive attitude........it was a breeze. Don't worry
