is depression genetically linked?

Question:
one of my parents sides has had depression and had to take pills for it*4 generations* i am scared that i may get it and i am thinking every little thing i do means i am getting it.

Answers:
Yes there are many researchers who study mental illness that see a connection, between depression and heredity. This doesn't mean that you are doomed to having chronic depression. Inherited mental illness seems to pop up in a family for three or four generation, and then goes away. However if you start to lose interest in things, and become withdrawn, then by all means seek medical help. Depression is an illness, just like heart disease, there is no shame in it. We live in an age when depression can be treated successfully There is no reason why a person who suffers from depression, can't live a full and rich life. And while there is no cure for chronic depression, the impact on a person's life can be minimized by alleviating the symptoms. So I wish you the best of luck, and hope that if you begin to feel depressed you will seek treatment. Remember that the only shame of mental illness is not seeking treatment, don't let anyone tell you that you are a weakling because you have a mental illness like depression.
it has nothing with genetics. just live a life free of tension and dont take things that seriously.
