What is the cost of premature birth - baby intensive care?
My nephew's baby was born 7 weeks premature. He will be in the hospital for 5 - 7 weeks. My nephew has no insurance and we need to have an idea of what the total expenses may be.

I am the mother of two boy's that were born prematurely: One was 5 weeks early and the other was 3 months. Not to frighten you--but the one that was 5 weeks early had a life-saving surgery and 3 month stay that came to over $1 million.
Premature birth and subsequent Neonatal ICU stay is a very costly endeavor, both financially and emotionally. You need to have your nephew contact the Social Worker at the hospital ASAP and discuss financial options. If your nephew fits into a low enough income bracket, the baby may qualify to either be put on Medicaid and receive free care, or be put on temporary SSI with Premature Ill Infant as the classification. The Worker should even be able to go ahead and take care of these forms for him so that he can focus his attention where it is most needed, that is on his new baby and the mother. Good luck to them and many blessings. **Please tell them for me, that each day is a roller coaster--some tears of joy and some of fear. Take it one day at a time, and treasure each moment a blessing. :) Oh, and get sleep when you can. Spending too much time at the hospital will wear them down, and do them nor the baby any good.

I would say 10000 or moreWhy doesn't the mother apply for state funded medical insurance. Here in California, it's called Medi-Cal. They usually pay up to 3 months of backpay also. I hope it isn't about pride. That baby needs coverage.
what yu think what will be after death?
it doesnt matter what it is dont pay it. they cant put the baby back in so what can they doMy kid was born the day after she counted as premature. But was small.
It cost 7000 dollars. Alot depends on what the docs have to do and where you went.
Many hospitals will have payment options. If they have low income the gov't (attorney general) can wipe some payments and costs.
will someone help me with this?
Uh, you may want to tell your cousin to sign up for medicaid. My son was twelve weeks premature. While in the critical side of the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), the bill was about $100-120,000 per month. As he progressed and moved to the intermediate/step down unit, it ranged from about $50-70,000 per month. It's important to understand that lack of insurance does not mean that the baby is going to be kicked out of the NICU, or that he will receive less than appropriate care. But medical bills like that can cripple you financially. To avoid this, the parents should sign up for Medicaid, because it is usually retroactive for about three months of services. It's better to pay that money back in taxes, than lose everything and end up in debt.More Questions and Answers
