i guess the most direct side effects come as a result of an increased heart rate. this can cause high blood pressure and eventually can cause damage to the various parts of your heart (ventricles, atria, etc.) as well as to your veins, and arteries. another problem with increased heart rate is that your heart will grow (like any muscle if you use it). large hearts do not pump blood very efficiently, and this causes all kinds of other problems such as bad circulation, etc.

heart problems is another, caffiene puts strain on your heart. Liver problems too. The liver doesn't process caffiene very well. My neighbor is a nurse and I asked the same Q. hypertension / high blood pressure. Irritability. Caffeine dependence with withdrawal symptoms upon cessation. if the caffeine comes from coffee, stained teeth and bad breath, if it comes from soda, acid in soda actually causes a loss of bone density.
caffeine also may permanantly affect the bodys metabolism. caffeine causes an increase in metabolism; after a while, this increase will level off even with an increase in consumption. when you stop drinking coffee, your metabolism will plummet possibly leading to more weight gain.
everything in moderation! For me it caused fibroid tumors in my breasts, uterus and ovaries. After several operations to remove them one doctor finally told me to give up the caffeine. I did and have had no further problems. Originally my condition was diagnosed as endometriosis.
