How well you do really depends on your age. I just had mine out on May 31st. I researched the recovery time on the net and it was pretty close to what I experienced. A young child (4-12) takes about 4-7 days to recover from the pain a teen (12-19) takes 7-10 days. I would add 1 day for every year you are over 21. I am 45 years old and it took about 20 days to get where I could travel but I still had to take ibuporfin every 4 hours and use hurricane spray before I ate.
Forget the myth about ice cream. First of all the doctor will tell you not to eat dairy for 48 hours and you really can't stand anything frozen for a while.
Just remember water, water, water just at room temp. Even if you think you can't stand it drink it anyway. The last thing you want is to get dehydrated because this makes everything worse.
There is this product called hurricane spray at the pharmacy its expensive and you have to ask the pharmiscist for it but it is well worth every penny try to get it before you have the surgery. It will make the first couple days a little easier.
They gave me lortab liquid for the pain. It stings like all get out when you swallow but you must take your pain meds on time or you can get into trouble.
THE PAIN MEDS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF RECOVERY.
You might think you can tough it out but you will end up at the emergency room because without a pain relivever you won't drink water and without water things will get out of control fast. As far as talking I could talk a little after 3 days but I did'nt talk normally for about 3 weeks.
I hope I have'nt scared you but I wished someone would have been more honest with me because I had a rough time. I am now glad I had it done though. I just wish I would have had it done at a younger age.
I wish you all the luck in the world. Remember things get a little better each day!

My son had his tonsils taken out last year. He was 17. He was very sore for a few days afterwards. He could eat soft foods like soup, pudding, ice cream, mashed potatoes, etc. He could talk right away, but it hurt. Also, he was nauseated and threw up for a day or two due to the anesthesia during surgery. He was as good as new in about a week.
Good luck to you!
can people with colostomy bags hold their farts?
nope not at all. i got mine out wheni was like 5 i was scared to death theni went and all i remember was waking up. your throat wil be kinda sore like its dry feelng but other than that no. but you will have to eat like ice creme and milshakes and stuf like that no hard foods for like a week or 2. you probably feel a little weak for a few days also. now adays they have 2 ways to take them out. they can cut them out or burn them out wit a laser. for that one they dnt even put yu out they just numb your thraot and blast them. its pain free and takes like an hour i think. which ever you pick it will be ok barley any pain.
