You can give to A+ and AB+ and recieve from A+, A-, O+, and O-.

I'll explain why. The blood groups exist because of antigens on blood cells. The antigens that exist are A, B, and Rh. A blood type has the A antigen, B the B antigen, AB both, and people who are Rh positive have the Rh antigen. O means you don't have an A or B antigen, and Rh- means you do not have an Rh antigen. If a person is O- they do not have any antigens at all on their blood cells.

When a person lacks an antigen, they have antibodies that fight off those antigens if they enter the body. So if a person with A blood recieves B blood, their body fights off the blood and clots. AB+ can recieve any blood because it has every antigen, but can only give to AB+. O- can give to any blood type, but cannot recieve from any type but O-.

rkc5555 is right! AB is universal recipient so you can give to AB and A!

You can donate to A or AB posotive just like me. You can also donate platelets which A can donate but not other blood types they use it for burn victims and such. It takes longer than the normal donation but you actually get some of your blood back. I hope it helps and I hope you go ahead and call the Red Cross they really need us.
