I banged my head, and my bf wouldn't let me sleep. Was he right?
Question:
I didn't throw up or anything, but all of a sudden I just wanted to go to sleep.
My boyfriend wouldn't let me, he insisted that I stayed awake, and he kept talking to me.
Why did he do this? I didn't think to ask him yesterday. Was he right to do that?
I was OK a few hours later, and I'm feeling fine now apart from a bit of a headache.
Answers:
he was doing the right thing-you probably have a mild concussion
a concussion is basically a bruise to your brain and depending on how severe it is-you could have slipped into a coma if you had fallen asleep.
things to watch out for now that require immediate medical attention are:
severe dizziness,faintness,nausea or vomiting
trouble focusing-blurry vision
changes in mental status-not remembering things you should (date, time, where you are)
severe headache that lasts for more than 24 hours that does not respond to medication
the small headache you have now is normal but it should go away within the next day. for now take ibuprofen (motrin) to help with the pain and it also has an anti-inflammatory in it to reduce swelling. take 200-400mg every 6 hours as needed but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.
please seek medical attention from an urgent care or emergency room if you have any of the symptoms i listed above-concussions can be very serious and are life threatening if you don't seek medical attention for severe cases. your case doesn't sound that severe and you are so lucky to have a wonderful boyfriend that was there to take care of you.
he or someone else should be there to watch you over the next day or so-especially when you sleep to just make sure you don't have any changes. the headache should eventually subside and you'll make a complete recovery.

you might have a had a slight concusion an if you had bleeding you might have gone into a coma or died
Yep, he was right. No sleeping for at least an hour.
yes, because u might not wake up if u go to sleep coz u dont know how serious ur bump was.
You have a concussion. He was right to keep you from going to sleep. But you should still go to the doctor to get your head examined, literally.
You could have had a concussion. He did the right thing.
yes he was 100% right you could have suffered a concussion....in fact being as you stil hv a headache you could still hv a concussion you may want to get it chck out .......you should NEVER let anyone who suffered a head trauma(even a minor one) go to sleep right away
Yes he was right to do this, it sounds like you had a mild concussion. With concussions, the danger is that you can die if you go to sleep. I'm not entirely sure why though. As much as it may pain you to admit, he was right.
yes kiki he was right and he did the correct thing to do. so he could see if anything would esclade to more serious stage. thanks god it did not. but i wld have done different things to keep you awake
He was absolutly right. Getting hurt by trauma to the head can cause you fall into a deep coma if not kept awake. It's hard to explain...but... it's alot like frost-bite. Parts of the body shut down to help preserve uninjured parts and to help heal. Sometimes though, even after a part os healed, it's not always functional. Sometimes allowing injured areas to stop functioning does more harm than good, like when you hit your head. As long as you're awake he can tell a little bit about what's going on.
Kudos to your boyfriend, sounds like he's a keeper. Hope you get better.
You may become sleepy after a concussion. It is okay to go to sleep as long as a responsible person wakes you up every two hours ...
yes he was right the hospital would have given the same advice hope your all right now it must have been a doozy
