Inherited high cholesterol?

Thru blood tests my doctor told me that I have high cholesterol (251)I'm well under weight for my height,I'm 5' 11" and weight 155 pounds.I don't eat meats or eat fast food.My only conclusion is that I probably inherited thru my family. Now I'm taking Vytorin to try to lower it,but once the cholesterol is lowered since I inherited will it come back if I stop taking the pill?

Saltpeter as a way to prevent hard ons?

Answers:
Yes.all of us manufacture cholesterol in our livers, and the amount is controlled not only by diet but by genetics as well. There is a condition called familial hypercholesterolemia, which is not uncommon because you only need one copy of the defective gene to have the condition..and weight bears little relevance to your cholesterol level when you do. If you stop taking the pill, your cholesterol levels will return to whatever they were previously. Sometimes a person has to try more than one drug before their levels decrease appropriately, and for some people they don't work all that effectively, but when the drugs ARE working, they must be continued indefinitely to overcome the genetic propensity of your liver to overproduce cholesterol.

what is my zodiac sign ?

Is there a cold going around that starts with a bad bad headache, then turns to bronchitis?

Ask the doctor who prescribed the pill..that is why you pay him.

Most likely. I have the same situation---even taking the same drug. I've had good response with Vytorin: down from the 300's to 192 at last check. Good luck,

Someone asked a question?

Yes.

Check with your doctor but when your cholesterol stabilizes a child's aspirin per day and control of your diet should be all you need

Did anybody Doo Doo today?

Most likely, yes.just because the cholesterol goes down doesn't mean you should stop taking the pill! It's DOING ITS JOB by lowering the cholesterol so being inherited, you'll probably have to be on it for the rest of your life.

My 'assumption' is yes.

Garlic is a cholesterol reducer. Take a concentrated form in a supplement.

And see a qualified naturopath in your area to complement and maybe even reduce your need for Vytorin.

To answer your question directly, check it out on the web or ask your doctor. both would be better.

Which is grosser: pee or puke?

Me, too..inherited cholesterol from Dad who died of a heart attack at age 49. You have to continue the medication. I am on Zocor and mine went down 85 points in 6 weeks. Depending on the source of your cholesterol, it will depend on the medication. Some medication is just for diet type high cholesterol and others are for diet and inherited.
