11 month old sone, medical help.?

Question:
Hes got an appointment thursday, but am too curious to wait. On the bends of his ankles and the back of his knee, theres a very red dry area, along the bend. I know its not his clothes or the detergent, no time to explain why here. They seem to itch because he rubs them against the chair or on the carpet when hes playing. They have a "chapped" look to them like dry, red, cracked skin. Two weeks of lotion have done nothing. Has anyone ever experienced this? What is it and what will I need to do?

Answers:
It could be an allergy to something in the environment, excema, or even a yeast infection if these fold are deep. It could even be psoriasis. Anything from this much information is just guess work, so the doctor really need to see this. It could be just dry skin, for that matter.

Since you know it's itching, try using an over the counter treatment like 1% or 1/2% hydrocortisone cream or Benadryl cream or even a combination.

He may be making them worse rubbing them because they itch, so you might consider applying a nonstickl dressing like Telfa pads over the creams to protect the areas. Keep a close watch for signs of infection which could result from scratching as well.

About lotions: they really don't add moisture to the skin but in most cases just help keep it in. For best reaults, apply moisturizing products just after bathing.
Chiggers or a house lice like scabies---- if he is outside alot chiggers. or if he is sweating-- chafing
