need to know if a patient should be sedated before inserting a peg tube.?

Question: my husband had a peg tube put into his stomach there was no sedation or nothing he was just tied to the bed while they pushed a 16 gage needle into his stomach cruel or not please i need answers.

Answers:
Its not always necessary, but, if he was in any kind of distress, he should have been given something to help him with the procedure.
