Yes, in vocal lessons, when singing lower notes, we are taught to use less energy and focus the direction of the sound on the upper palette (for high notes, you focus the sound deep in the diaphragm, the muscle the encircles the stomach).
When you think about projecting a low sound, keep a "high" focus. Note high pitched sound, but think the origin of the sound originating high up on our body in your mouth area, not deep in the lungs or stomach area.
