I have sharp chest pains, but just recently. It's on the left side. What is it?

Question:
I'm only 16, female, and i'm not overweight at all, although I do have high cholesterol. I don't eat extremely healthily, but I don't pig out either. I presume I would be slightly overweight if I didn't inherit high metabolism. I don't drink or do drugs either. I just started getting this about a week ago, and I have it again today. When I take a deep breath it hurts even more. What's happening to me!! I'm only 16! Thanks.

Answers:
since you don't eat healty it could also be heartburns, but stop looking for advice over here, call a doctor and go see one ASAP.

Get help! Call the dr and make an apt.

sounds like heartburn. have some tums. You need to tell your parents immediately and have a doctor check it out. It could be just an infection, but none of us here are certified doctors, dear. Don't worry, you'll be OK but please do get it checked out.

Sounds lke a heart attack. Even at your age.

It's past time for you to call your doctor or dial 911 if the pains sharpen and get worse. You may have a heart disorder--even at your young age. Early detection can mean early and successful treatment.

Tell your parents and make the call.

Sounds like you need a doctor. I am not a doctor and I cannot give you medical advice. The only advice you should take is that of a doctor or your parent. You should tell your guardian or parents, and they should take you to the doctor to rule out that it is something serious. If you are short of breath, or you are hyperventilating, feverish, are having a rapid or irregular heartbeat, or are sweating alot then you should go to the ER. If you have been on a long pane trip or have recently had an upper respiratory infection you should also go to the ER. CHances are it is just a muscle spasm or strain - maybe you have been gardening, swimming or dancing alot lately.

As everyone has suggested, it could be one of many things, and you should tell your parents and see a doctor right away. A friend of mine actually went to the hospital thinking he was having a heart attack but they told him it was just gas. I tell you this just so you know that it might not be something serious and you shouldn't panic - but it is very important to see your doctor and rule out anything more dangerous. Good luck.
