i was told by doctors nerves do regenerate after surgery but how fast do they really grow? 1mm/day (1in/mth)?

Question:

Answers:
1-4 mm/day. To give you an estimate of this...imgine a tall man who has injured a peripheral nerve in his foot...if his leg length is about 1 meter, it will take between 250 days and 1000 days for this nerve to regenerate...however, after about 18 months (about 550 days), if the nerve has not made an appropriate connection, they often die. In other words, most nerve injuries that have reached the 18 month mark have probably reached their maximum potential.
1mm/day or so some are slower if you smoke for example, because you have less blood supply, longer healing time.
