what is the difference between maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal-perinatal medicine?

Question:

Answers:
Maternal fetal medicine is the same as perinatology. These are specially trained Ob/gyn docs who subspecialize in high risk pregnancies. Neonatologists are pediatricians who sub specialize in newborns, usually sick ones. A pediatrician could not become a perinatologist without first doing another residency in Ob/gyn. Likewise, an Ob could not become a neonatologist without first doing a pediatrics residency.
I think that maternal-fetal medicine is actually given to the mother and it will pass to the fetus. Neonatal-perinatal medicine is given directly to the child. But I could be totally wrong...
