Quack quack quack! What makes a doctor a quack?

Question:
I think that a red flag signaling that a doctor is a quack is if they make diagnoses without doing any medical tests first. I think that doctors should always do a complete medical workup followed by a panel of blood tests -- that way they can see what's going on with a person rather than making their decisions based on conjecture.

Answers:
According to Webster's dictionary a doctor is a quack if he doesn't have the proper training or medical skill. If the doctor doesn't preform the tests or give the patient a complete medical workup, I would say he is lacking in medical skill. So yes he fits the bill as a quack. :)

LMAO

Yeah I agree doctors never test enough ot they use this old excuse and brush it off "oh it must be just all in your head". Pffft gimme a break! Half of them are probably stoned off their as$es and don't have a clue what they're talking about.
Yeah, I agree.
That wouldnt be cost effective. Like all businesses hospitals and dr's offices are businesses. Dr's have usually seen just about anything we can throw at them and are familiar enough to make a diagnosis without all those tests. When they are not sure or it could be several things they may order tests to verify the condition. They see sickness everyday ....we as lay people do not. Just like a mechanic can listen to a customer describe a "noise" and be able to pin point the problem. Thats what they do everyday . Its stuff they are taught and expected to know.

Some signs that your Dr is a "quack " may be if he/she perscribes an innapropriate medication ...ie. antibiotics for a viral infection without a secondary bacterial infection.
A Dr. that you have never seen before doesnt preform an adequate history.
There are many more but ive seen these 2 happen quite frequently.
A fellow on a tape series I heard talked about that topic. A quack is a person lacking proper training that gives out advice on medical conditions and their treatment. The treatments are ones found to be without merit or are harmful as well as being costly. The prescription is given and filled by the same one and he gets rich from doing this.

This is to be distinguished from not knowing the cause of something and trying with good faith to find it. Think of scurvy on the explorer's ships. The one treatment was to bury in a standing position people suffereing from it. The thing that doctors knew is that people who walked on earth didn't get scurvy.
