Why does it seem that people with body odors can't detect they have one?

Question:
It seems that people that have a regular body odors are the last to know they have one. I always thought that you are the first to smell yourself if there is an odorifirous odor. I want to know is true that the smellee will detect their foul odor sooner than the smeller.

Answers:
Probably because they're around it all the time. Kind of like when you come home and smell gas fumes, a lot of times the people there didn't notice because the smell came on gradually and they didn't detect a sudden change.

.I think it's nice to tell those people that they're stinkers, in a one-on-one situation, so they know and can choose to do something about it if they wish to.

Other Answers:
They probably just don't care?
at first, Im sure they notice the stench, but as time goes by people get immune and used to certain scents and in their brain the smell is normal and they no longer notice it..
Disgusting, huh.
Body odor used to be how people were identified and in what kind of state they were in. Same as other animals.
they are immune to their smell already and they have the notion that it is his usual smell and that other are just have too much vanity that they spend much to smelling good.
Their nose becomes desensitized to the smell. The same as those who wear way too much perfume or cologne. they can't smell it so they splash more and more on.
IT IS CALLED DESENSATIZATION ---THEY BECOME OBLIVIOUS TO IT AND IT BECOMES THE NORM--the same is true with people who have the same problem with their home envoirnment as well---the olfactory mechanisms just get burned out and the odor is as normal to them as a spring day on a hillside
Stand in an outhouse for about 10 minutes, breathing in deeply. Soon you will notice the odor fading away. Walk away from the outhouse for 10 minutes and breathe in deeply. Then go back to the outhouse. You will notice the stench again.

The reason is because our senses fill up over time, and begin to ignore the odor.

Therefore, a person with an odor that offends you does not notice their own odor because their senses are already filled.
They get use to it so they really don't smell it. It's the people around them that do.
sometimes body odor has got to do with culture.in some countries they prefer to smell a bit disgusting to us..but to them it is somewhat normal..
