you can continue to keep the coverage but it's exspensive
They have COBRA - but you will have to pay the premiums and they will be higher which means if it is a job loss - most people won't be able to afford it. They are required by law to send you COBRA information if you lose your job. Typically you can keep it only for a short time (1-2 months) and you have to take over full payment. Once you quit, you are no longer part of the group that it covers.
Normally you are eligible for a cobra policy, but its expensive. If you are changing jobs, its probably best that you get insurance through your new employer.
You have the oppertunity to continue benefits, paying the entire premium on your own through COBRA. Your employer should have given you this information when you started receiving your benefits.
You can pay the full cost of your current insurance for a period of 18 months from your date of termination under COBRA regulations. Just be warned - it's expensive. You can keep the benefits through COBRA, but you won't believe what you they want to charge you. Blue Cross Blue Shield offers individual plans through their insurance and they are a pretty good deal too. I would go to BCBS.com and research it.
You can keep your insurance through your employer via COBRA for a little while, but BCBS also offers individual policies, so you might want to check with the BCBS in your state. They do offer some reasonalbe prices and decent coverage.
If Blue Cross is through your employer, then working for that employer is the only way to keep it. Sometimes there is a Cobra Insurance offered by some employers. A Cobra insurance is like a temporary insurance that can be used until you get other health insurance. It does not cover as well as the original insurance, but it does suffice.
Depending on your health conditions, you could apply for Blue Cross privately, but that is a lot more expensive than getting it through an employer.
Also different employers tend to carry different insurance policies, so if you leave your current job and find another job there is no guarantee that the new employer would even offer Blue Cross (you would have to figure that out on interviewing).
I have been a medical insurance biller for 7 years.Under COBRA , by law, you will receive information about continuing your current BC/BS plan. Since your employer will not be contributing their share of the premiums, your share will be higher. It is still better than losing insurance altogether. You can get an individual policy from Blue Cross that is similar to your current coverage, but it will be a lot more. You can continue your coverage you have until you get a new job, or until the end of the 18 month period by using the COBRA coverage, which means you pay out of your own pocket for the same coverag you had for 18 months. If your new company does not offer the same plan you would have to just use their group plan.
