Does anyone know if a high school student can be hired as a vet assistant?

Question:
I'm interested in the field of work but I have no experience with it.

Answers:
If you are really interested, try hiring out for the "ghopher" position in a small vet hospital and make a deal with the doc to read his books and volunteer for assisting, then take a small course by mail. If you are a Freshman or Sophomore, by your Junion year you MIGHT be able to hire out for the vet assistant position. If they don't hire, maybe you can start as a volunteer. Experience is "priceless" -- and worth its weight towards your future career. GOOD LUCK!

Other Answers:
You typically need to obtain certification through a diploma or Associate Degree program. However, you can ask around at some of your local veterinary offices as to whether they offer any on the job training or internships.
