How do you quit smoking cigarettes?

Question:
Does anyone have some great ideas to get rid of withdrawals when trying to quit smoking? Or any motivation to help me stop?

Answers:
Read the last 3 words of your question..that's how you do it. I smoked for almost 20 yrs starting when I was 11. I got sick of the control it had on my life. I didn't realize how badly I stunk until I quit and could smell other smokers.
Ask a nonsmoker how far away they can smell someone smoking, and I bet some will honestly say a block away.
When I first quit, it was nothing for almost 2 weeks. I was strong and no cigarette controlled me. Then I went through 3 days of craving, very irritable, and nerves just going crazy BUT I knew what it was from. After 3 days, everything settled down.
I can still drive, eat (and food tastes sooo good now), wake up, go to sleep, everything and without a cigarette.
And remember that nonsmokers don't reward themselves with a cigarette so you don't either.
It's simple. You stink. It controls you. It's just a few days- get over it.

It really is better. I quit over 2 or 3 years ago- no need to keep up. =)

.oh real quick..I knew someone that was hypnotized and she's 4+ yrs a nonsmoker. I was going to try that if I didn't' quit.

Did you try the cigarettes plan? My husband used it 14 yrs ago and hasn't touched a cigarette since then.

Hypnotherapy is great.. don't buy em

The patches work wonders.

Reading Shakespear Tragedies helps.

My father quit while he was in the hospital after an appendectomy. But I don't think you want that.

Some people keep a jar that they put all the money into that they would have spent on cigarettes. As expensive as they are, that will add up quickly. That is money you can save and spend on something you really want.

Another thing you can do is keep chewing gum- and I don't mean Nicorette either. Just something you can stick in your mouth instead of a cigarette.

Or you can decide on something else to do whenever you get the urge to light up. I don't smoke and never did, but my 'nervous energy thing' is clean.

I wish I new. I have quit at least 12 times, only to go back. Its cheaper to buy a pack at 3.50, then come up with 50.00 to 60.00 dollars all at once! For the withdrawl from nicotine have your doctor write a prescription for Zyban or Whelibutrin. This medication which is an antidepressent that will do away with withdrawls. That only leaves the habit and psycological addition to defeat. This will still take determination. If at first you don't succeed try, try again.
Good luck.

my husband started chewing gum and he has been off cigarettes now 5 years this going to sound weird but the uncle buck method really works, i quit smoking this way, first i started to smoke cigars then switched to pipe tobacco and then chewing tobacco then started to cut back for a while then just quit cold turkey and the withdrawal wasn't that bad, of course don't let them do anything in excess because they could just as easy switch to something else as a placebo. just slowly ween the person of the cigarettes for like a month or two and stop cold turkey, just make sure the they doesn't find a placebo to replace this cigarette problem.
