Am I at risk??

Question:

I'm 12 years old. My mother's sister and mother both died from Lupus. My mother and some people I know noticed my cheeks and nose have been turning red for no reason(I am black). My mom said this a sign of Lupas. Does anybody know if this is a syptom and any other evidence proving that I may have this skin disease. Any advice would be appreciated!

In many cases, people with lupus will have a redness across the cheeks and nose like a mask, sometimes called a butterfly. I believe it is rare for a child to develop serious effects of lupus. However, ask your mom to take you to a doctor who can address your concerns. Go to a doctor. I dont think you are going to have much peace until you hear it from a professional. That is also the safest way. It could be nothing, I have rosasia which makes my face red.

Have your mom take you to the Dr. and be tested. It does sound like it but it could also be some thing else . I have Lupus and as well

Well, first I'm sorry about the passing of your aunt and mother, and I am 14 and my friend Isla had one of the same symptoms for that, (and se is also african-american), and she went to the doctor for that, and they were able to help her at an early age, so would recommend you go to a doctor, but don't stress too much over this.

i think it might b butterfly rash of lupus.. it mostly manifests in young females.. n has higher incidence in blacks, as ur family history also suggests. i wud advise u to visit a Dr as identifying it this early may prevent many other complications..

"hello" yes you are at risk....but go get the appropriate tests needed from you doctors office..... give the history of your family & get the blood tests needed for an acurate reading.... make sure to ask about your a.n.a reading& your sedcount....... from the blood test.......also if your doctor is helpful enough to send you to a good nurologist or if you have joint pains a good rumitologist as well.....
