What is a good sport to get involved in that will not injure a back after major back surgery?

Question:
I've had a L4-5 fusion with rods added. Would like to get involved in a sport but am concerned about injuring my back.

Answers:
You need 'in water' Tai Chi.. Badly, my friend.
Or even plain Tai Chi.
Then, work your way up to gentle swimming.
Think of the pool as your best friend!
of course, professional advice is best.

I'm no medical expert by any means, but how about swimming? They say that swimming is very easy on your joints, etc. You should ask your doctor for *real* advice, though!
umm walking is good because u wont hurt your back..i recommend tennis..wear the right shoes and play for about an hour it will keep u in shape and not mess you all up after surgery..
swimming is no impact and yet will strentghen and relax your muscles - plus you won't get sweaty! If you can't swim, then just run in place under water or do jumping jacks, etc. while in the water.
Tennis might be ok once your back heals a bit!

you do stretch and jump around but probably one of the lightest sports there is
Try competative walking - with yourself. It is and always has been the safest 'sport', and with so many walkers now, you can likely join a group that fits your pattern/personality.
maybe swimming..I would go to your dr and therapist and ask them
Swimming.
any non- heavy contact sport, I agree, swimming, golf, speed walking, etc. having had 2 lower back surgeries with rods inserted along with cervical neck surgery with a plate and cage inserted, I know what your going thru. But as is always, any sport no matter who low impact can hurt you now. A sneeze can re-injure your back. Lifting a loaf of bread and twisting the wrong way can injure you. Just do stretching excersizes and stay limber, and becareful.
board games i think this is one game you can play and withouth breaking any sweet, you should be careful not to strain your back!! any othr games include some movement and it may cause you some discomfort
