if the tobacco company's kill so many people y doesn't the government put them out of business?

Question:
they say hundreds of thousands of American people die a year of smoking causing illness then y doesn’t the government shut them down or force them to pay restitution to all the people they made sick or die.

Answers:
Not only does tobacco generate a lot of money, but it is a person's right to choose whether or not they want to smoke. Whatever the risks, the government shouldn't be able to tell you what to do when it comes to your personal life.

Other Answers:
tobacco pull in a lot of tax money.
cause they get money out of it too..tobacco companys sell lots so can u imagine how much they get in tax etc...
The cigarette is the only product that when used correctly will kill you.
Don't make sense to me.
Silly boy. One reason, and one reason only: because tobacco companies pay alot of campaign money (legalized bribes) to our elected officials in Washington. End of story.
Do you know how much money for the government the tobacco companies make? Hell, its more than you or I could ever make. Thats why they are not shutting them down.
Cars are by far the biggest killer, why don't they make us walk around w. helmets and lights in case we fall over? Don't worry it's coming.
because nobody at these companies forced these people to smoke, and until tobacco is outlawed, it's just another business. same for guns, cars, swimming pools, prescription drugs, airplanes, and other things that kill people from time to time.
Because the government believes that thousands of deaths is a small price to pay for the Billions of dollars of tax revenue they recieve from the sales of tobacco.
it comes down to money.
big tobacco companies pay a lot of money to put people in office.
just like big oil, even gun manufactures, even drug companies.
that's why they won't put them out of business.
the government supports their business. Pres. Bush used to have rallys against drugs and drug use, yet sent equipment and vehicles to help transport illegal drugs.
they make too much money off of it.
our government is too ******* retarded.
money money money money money
The government is responsible for pushing tobacco products on the general public during WWII to help ease anxieties during war time. They are not only receiving profits from it's sales, they are also receiving profits from the drug companies who are trying to "combat" the effects of tobacco consumption.
Most of those people would have come down with the condition, even if they hadn't smoked.. Check on how many have lung cancer who have never smoked or been around others who do. There is such a thing as genetic faults which make the individual more susceptible to certain conditions.. the same applies to how people use their minds. If someone has fear, anger, hate held within them it does make them more susceptible also.

I have a condition that could be attributed to smoking (by some people) but they do not know the history of lung damage by ether, when I was only 7 years old.. Too many jump to conclusions without benefit of historical knowledge in each case. ( I am celebrating my 74th year this year)
