what is the name of the implant that is inserted under skin for pain management?

Question:
it uses electrical currents to relieve pain

Answers:
implantable pain devices .one brand is the medtronic
There are two groups of implantable devices:

Spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulators, which use electric current to decrease the pain. the device with hair like wires is put on the spine and the battery is placed under the skin. the patient can increse or decrese the amount of current he receives.
the electrical signals block out the pain signals, there is asomething called the pain gate theory which explains how

pumps are also implated for pain intra thecally but they dont use currents.

so such stimulators are used for getting rid of low back ache some headaches and also severe chronic arthritis(non inflammatory)

I think it might be a spinal cord stimulator. A wire, or "lead," is connected to a small power source surgically implanted under the patient's skin. Low-level electrical signals are transmitted through the lead to the spinal cord or to specific nerves, preventing pain signals from reaching the brain. A magnetic remote control is used to turn the current on and off, or adjust its intensity.

I know they have begun implanting a vagal nerve stimulator. It was originally used to treat seizures. It is implanted by a neurosurgeon. It sends a small electrical current to the vagal nerve. My son has one to control seizures. He has a scar on his neck, and a scar on his left side below the armpit. Once the vns is implanted the electrical impulse can either be increased or decreased using a laptop computer. The only side effect that my son experienced was a hoarseness in his throat for a period of about two weeks. He has had no side effects since.
