No, It's just an excuse to not legalize it.
ALCOHOL is the gateway drug. You'll do anything when your drunk, no matter how stupid it is. When your high, you tell someone else to do it and grab a doughnut.

actually 100% of people who smoke are the ones whose parents thought it was funny when the kid got drunk while sneaking drinks at parents parties. so, no alcohol is the gateway to other drugs. i really and seriuosly doubt that weed is the gateway to other drugs!!, common know what are the statistics of someone being arrested because he was stoned verses some being arrested becuase he/she was drunk or under the influence of meht. I too think that its headlined "the gateway" drug just to make it impossible for it to be legal. On the other hand just because i feel this way about weed doesnt mean that i would want my kids to grow up smokeing weed either. The bottom line is that only weak minded people fall for **** like that!

Lots of people believe that Marijuana is a gateway drug. They believe this because they're always told this. Not because there is any evidence of it actually being a gateway drug. It's just one of those things that the self-righteous hypocrates argue to keep it illegal, to scare children out of even trying it.
