How long does a bad sprained ankle last?

Question:
I sprained my ankle pretty bad the other day. I've been doing the RICE thing the last couple days. How long does recovery usually take and are there any exercises I can do and if so when can i start them?

Answers:
Please remember that the R stands for Rest. Try to keep the ankle immobile. A bad sprain may take 2-3 weeks for all soft tissue swelling and pain to subside completely. If you also have bruising, don't worry about it. That may take longer to resolve but won't interfere with use of the joint. If you must put weight on the joint, use an Ace wrap or comparable support. Continue the RICE protocol you very wisely initiated and take NSAIDS for the pain and inflammation.
About two weeks
