Why do patients on medicare pay so much for medicine now?

Question:
medicare

Answers:
Because legislature passed a bill stating that if anyone on medicare A or B had to join a prescription drug plan by April 15, or they would pay a penalty if they decided to enroll at a later date. They went this route because most people with A or B got their drug coverage thru medicaid--but Medicaid isn't picking up the tab anymore.

Other Answers:
Because all of the money the gov't used to have is going for the war in Iraq.
