Can Newborn Jaundice cause longterm medical problems as they get older?
Question:
Answers:
Newborn Jaundice is more common in pre-term babies and low-birth weight babies, However if severe enough to cause a problem your doctor would have had her treated, mild forms of jaundice are often fixed on their own and serious forms with a bilirubin light, however if she were to have problems with her liver they would have shown up way before now. I have four kids and I know how they can all have different eating habits. Sometimes it seems they pick like a bird and others eat me out of house and home. I wouldn't worry about it. You can't judge her on the behavior of your other children because all kids are different. If you are worried take her for an exam at the doctors.

Normal newborn jaundice lasts a few days and that is it. There is a reason for it - I belive that the extra blood that went through the umbilical cord is no longer required and its going away causes jaundice. This should have no longer lasting side effects.
There are of course tests for liver function and they give the information that you would need.
