How can you tell if YOUR breath stinks?

Question:

Answers:
Not sure how accurate the suggestion to lick yourself, let dry, then try smelling it is, since dry things rarely smell bad.

BEst suggestion I ever heard was this: Get a CLEAN facecloth.moisten it slightly (not dripping, not able to squeeze water out, just slightly damp). Now use it to scrub your tongue. Wait 1-2 minutes, then sniff it. If it smells, so does your breath.

This isn't foolproof though.

MOST bad breath is due to not brushing AND flossing properly, and/or often enough.

A LOT of temporary bad breath is due to icky foods (garlic, onion, Doritos, etc.)

But MANY cases of bad breath also have to do with other causes:
- infected gums, dental decay or infection
- exhaled virus germs in some cases ( I could always smell it if my brother or father or one coworker were coming down with colds, even before they knew, but not on most people)
- nasal infections
- digestion difficulties and stomach ailments
- acid reflux, or acids raised into the throat and mouth from vomiting

If your dental hygiene is thorough and frequent, and you're not eating nasty-odor foods, check in with your dentist and/or doctor about persistent halitosis (bad breath).
