Anyone a Massage Therapist? Advice on going to get certified...?

What advice do you have in choosing a school?
I found one in San Jose... http://www.nhi.edu/ it's almost $13,000 for 10 months... is that good? Or is that high?
Does anyone know anything about this school?
What is the difference if i just get certified at the local community college for less than $1,000?
Any other advice on becoming a Massage Therapist?

i am a massage therapist in san jose/santa clara.
nhi - nat'l holistic institute is a highly recognize school of MT. the program priced at $13,000 sounds about right for that particular school. i went to silicon valley college, which is now called western career college. the program cost $11,000 total. it was very thorough and covered everything that i needed to pass my exam and get certified/my permit. you need at least 500 hours of classroom experience... so, getting it at a community college may be difficult as they don't always offer the different modalities that you will find at nhi or wcc. you also need to complete a medical core class that covers anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and medical terminology (i don't know if the community college of your choice offers this in one course setting).
definitely visit all of the schools before making a decision.
as far as working goes, i like that i build new relationships w/clients, educate them, make them feel better than they did when they walked in. each massage session is different and tailored to the individual needs of EACH client. it feels great to be able to apply the knowledge you learn in school every time you massage someone.
downfalls, sometimes it can be stressful. especially when you are overworked. i work one day a wk performing massage and it's an 8 hr shift... there are times when i get 7 clients in a row! it can be tiring. you just have to take care of yourself as well and receive massages too. the other downfall are clients who try to push your boundary lines. the ones who try to ask for more than a therapeutic massage. you learn how to handle the situation and do what you need to in order to con't forward in a professional manner or terminate the session.
MT is a self rewarding career and you can make bank if you establish a good clientele. good luck! feel free to message me if you want more info
