how come some people's eyes progress so quickly and easily while others' don't?

case in point: me and my roommate.
she stares at her computer for long hours at a time and yet she still has perfect eyesight. her father wears glasses. i can look at a computer or a book for about an hour and then my eyesight will get noticeably worse, and i am otherwise healthy. both my parents wear glasses. my dad's isn't very bad but my mom's is really bad. why is this? heredity? how can i beat it? also, my right eye is getting worse faster than the left eye, and i'm right handed, meaning i lean to the left when i write. why?

Answers:
Well you must spand lots of time at the computer for your eyes to do this. But my mother has the same... doing simple eye excercises help alot! Firt you get a book and look at the cover, then turn your eyes up to look at something in the distance. Then as soon as your eyes are focused look back down at the book. Do that daily, only a few minuets though or you could strain your muscles. Pretty soon your eye sight will improve! It worked for me and I hope it works fot you...good luck!
