What is the best medicine for an 11 month old girl that has a runny nose?

Question:

Answers:
runny nose or upper airway infection( which includes nose, nasopharynx and trachea or windpipe) is very common in infants and children. And the most common cause is a viral infection . It is spread in the air(droplet infection) and kids have a low threshold to catch hold of the bug. There are different viruses like adenovirus, rhinovirus etc which are harmless. These are common cold viruses. This viral infection should resolve in few days to maximum of 10-12 days. also there is some associated fever. This does not warranty treatment as there is no drug that actually get rid of the disease itself. You can treat the congestion with some decongestants..but there is a risk of rebound congestion once you stop them . So in kids nothing is adviced. You can double check with your doctor.

on the other hand if it leads to situation where there is the kids get lethargic, short of breath, not eating or drinking, not urinating and not playful ...then you should suspect a bacterial infection in the lungs or upper airways..which can actually be treated with antibiotics.
lots of liquids
a runny nose needs to run to relieve sinus congestion
you should try not to give medication to a 2 and under child with out doctor
i think children's sudafed consult the pharmasist first though........
