You cannot eliminate them just like you cannot get rid of stupid people. The idea is to just get to where you can dispassionately observe them. By observing them you can see what you identify with and what causes misery and suffering.

Meditation is NOT about forcing anything. the teacher must have told in your first class itself that we should let the thoughts. they will be coming and going freely. if u want to control them, then its not meditation.
