Has anyone had a tattoo done on Keloid skin, how did it turn out?
Question:
Answers:
Not a good idea at all.Hardly any tattooist will agree to do it.
Keloids look thicker than normal skin but are actually much thinner. They are composed of fibrous scar tissue and will not take the tattoo dye, since this usually requires an intact dermis (lower skin layer).
Keloids skin cannot tolerate tattooing;and can only be worsened by the needle's penetration. You would end up with a larger keloid than before.
Use a stick -on tattoo instead or if you really want the permanent one,do it on normal skin instead.
Good luck!
Other Answers:
No, I have not had a tattoo on keloid skin. Keloid skin grows on scar tissue and I would not have thought it would be a good idea to have a tattoo if you are prone to keloid scarring.
Speak to your doctor who should be able to advise you.
I would not recommend doing this as sometimes, especially depending on the location (neck, chest, shoulders etc.) of the keloid they can often change or grow. I have seen many patients who rub and scratch a keloid causing it to double in size. I would avoid anything that would cause further irritation to the area. If you are a know keloid former you are also higher risk from the tattoo. If you are considering placing it on or near an area of your body with a current keloid you risk the entire area becoming scarred.
