Why does a non-stutter think a true "Stutter" needs to think before they speak.?

Question:
I myself am a "Stutter" and I hear people all the time telling me that I need to think about what Im going to say before I speak,as if I am running my mouth and stumbling on words that I think of as I go along with speaking. You know, stutters do know what they are going to say before they say it.Why do people continue to say "Think before you speak".The people who say this as I have learned have no clue about stuttering. They instantly think a stutter is stammering because they try to speak and/or say things without thinking. Why is this?

Answers:
Most people are uneducated, judgmental fools. Even when they don't understand something, they're just SURE that they have the "fix" for it. Unfortunately, stuttering is one of those things that you can only really understand if you've suffered from the issue yourself. It's sad really.

Best of luck to you though!

Other Answers:
Because people who stutter aren't thinking of what their going to say.
my boyfriend is a stutter too. i try to help him lose the stutter by telling him to take a deep breath before speaking. sometimes it also help to speak in a rhytm. just ignore them!! you are a greater person if you do so.
that must be really frustrateing! its probably ignorance on their part. Most people are not effective communicators ; they're usually thinking about what it is they are going to say next, instead of actually listening - so to have to wait for stuttering means they actually have to listen to what it is you're trying to say. that then makes them feel awkward and they feel they have to fix it , so the comments you recieve are they only way some people know how to help or assist you in getting across what your trying to say. hope this helps!
I think this just has to do with the fact that people know that technically a stutter comes from the mouth acting faster than the brain or whatever. A stutterer can't really help that; they may be thinking very clearly about what they have to say but it's obviously a brain function that isn't quite developed right that is hindering the action from flowing smoothly. So I think a lot of people think it'll help to suggest that a person "thinks" about what they say before they say it, kind of like an "envision it happening and you can do it" kind of thing. The only problem is that with stutterers, it's not about thinking if you can do it, it's about if your brain will send the message correctly. Now, I don't know what it is that therapists do that fixes it, but obviously different brain-thinking exercises might be able to help, but you're right, it's a little more than "thinking before you speak". I think it's just a misunderstanding of what's really going on and what it takes to correct it for those who don't know.
I'm a stutterer, and I'm sick and tired of the giggles, "What did you say," "Calm down," "Take a deep breath," "Think first," "Concetrate." They have no idea what this does to us, but I learned to deal with it. My twin and I found that when we speak in a rhythm we don't stutter
