Second degree burn on husband's fingers. . .need relief, please.?

Question:
My husband burned his fingers on the hot muffler of our lawnmower. What are some ideas for relieving pain? Have tried running them under cold water. What else? They are blistered.

Answers:
the burn is gonna burn worse after he cools it, but only for a short time. He did the right thing by coolong the burn. You should cool a burn for at least 15 minutes under running water. After that, apply a clean DRY dressing to the burn. Do not use neosporin this soon. It causes more harm than good, and will not provide much relief. Aloe will help, as well as a cooling burn spray like LANACANE or BACTINE. The burning will go away in a couple of hours, but be sure not to pop the blisters. Sometimes, they go away without bursting. If they do start to burst, the dead skin needs to be removed, and thats when the neosporin will be needed. Keep it clean and dry. Hes going to have to deal with the burn for a short while. After the burn stops stinging, it will be ok. No need to see the doc unless the skin gets red around the blisters, feels hot to the touch, or you notice red streaks going up his arm. These are signs of possible infection, and usually pop up around the fourth or fifth day. Hope that helped a small bit.

Other Answers:
neosporin with pain relieve.

Tylenolxtra strength andA&D ointment. You should have him see a doctor. Blistered burns can get easily infected and cause even more problems. The doctor can then prescribe the correct meds, which will include pain meds.

keep his hand in ICE I burned my hand bad and that was what helped, and yes neosporin alot of neosporin, and try to take his mind off the pain make him laugh that is what helped me the most.

Well, I highly suggest you take him to the ER. Please cool the burns for about 15-20 minutes in cool water, cover then with sterile banages and do not put anything on them. That seals in the heat and they will only have to remove it at the ER. Remove any jewlery on that hand as it might swell up. Don't pop the blisters as much as it would be fun. That will only increase the chance for infection.

Tylenol can be fine for the pain.

Lawnmovers are dirty.there is a high chance of infection, so he really needs to be seen by a professional. They may give him some antibotics and silvadine cream.
