What can I do to help my son?

Question:
My son is 8 years old. He has a problem of urinating in bed at night. I have taken him to the docter and all they have done is give him allsorts of medication. None of it works. How else can I help him?

Answers:
Please PLease E-mail me I had the same thing with my children. I know exactly what medication is needed. It is a nasal spray for antidiuretichormone. ADH.
I know that lots of children have problems with wetting the bed. I think there's actually a device that will wake up your son when he has a full bladder.

They also sell diapers in all different sizes. This may be embarrassing for him, but it will help.

I'm pretty sure that this is something that he will soon outgrow.

Assure him that this is common, and that there is nothing to be ashamed of.
Use a bell and pad

Ask him not to drink any fluids after 8pm

If he wets his bed, get up and show him to shower and clean himself and then to load his sheets and wet pyjamas into the washing machine

He needs to learn to wake up when he gets the urge to go.
Usually this sort of thing is hereditary. Boys tend to have this problem more than girls, so ask your husband if he or any of his immediate relatives had this problem. Regardless, if this is purely a physical condition it is something that will be outgrown around puberty if not before. I'd keep him off meds if they aren't helping, maybe see that he has two alarm clocks in his room, one to wake him up in the middle of the night so he can use the bathroom, and most importantly be supportive and non-critical of him.

Therapy might be good as well. If this is a recent development, therapy is highly recommended as there is possibly an emotional reason or insecurity that could be causing this.
so kids don't have very big ballders and may not be able to wake themselves up when they have to go. this is probaly normal for a kid his age. he may have a real medical condition. i feel bad for your son since he may get teased by his friends for this. i hope this helped.
