Wondering. I've seen some serious health "Q"s posted, is anyone else frightened for these people?
Question:

I definately agree with you, they should see their physician. But HOLD ON! before you start going against them, you also have to see the medical insurance is very high, and it is NOT going to STOP! it will geek on going higher. The reason I said this is almost HALF of all the people in America does NOT have Health Insurance. Right there, thats serious. Plus they have to pay certain amount just to get a visit to their clinic(If the have insurance) if they DON'T have insurance, they should go to webmd.com. That site is very good. But yes, i do agree with you on shortnessof breath. that is an exception as well as heart related symptoms. Getting some answers here helps them get some feed back on what are some possible causeof their pain. if it was VERY serious (physiologically) then they wouldn't be able to type their question in the first place, instead they would dial 911. But I applaud you for bringing this question(Yes, it is a serious question).

KEZZA, I'm more worried about the people who are asking questions like.." I'm pregnant with my boyfriends baby but so are three other girls I know, now he says he may not love me anymore, should I start going out with his best friend??"
That's why the answer most people give to those questions is; 'go to a doctor' i am very worried for these people. i am a psychiatrist and i think i need to take their money.wait!.i mean i think they need my help so they should schedual an appointment.
No you aren't being snobbish because people should get a physicians opinion. Thing is, people may like yahoo better because not only more convenient but they are anonymous. Some things they may find embarrassing. I also believe it has to do with money because you have to pay to go to the doctor. Not to mention lazy.
I personally would go see an all natural doctor and not ask yahoo people. I would ask advise on things, not medical problems!
Yeah, this is not the place to ask serious health questions. A little sometimes people find it easier to ask and seek info when they feel safe and can't be identified not everyone is able to seek assistance when they should
yes, well. lets not talk crazy talk, those are drastic measures
Maybe a little snobbish. Still, you gotta wonder why people who have internet access aren't smart enough to know that the opinions of strangers are useless -- or dangerous -- when what you need is real medical attention.
help I avoid them coz it scares me that someone will take strangers advice where a doctor is necessary
Some people on this site are quite knowledgeable about these issues that you are talking about. There are doctors and nurses that use this site and med students too. Also as for the Mental health section, there ar a lot of people on here that are very helpful in relating to the issues these people are dealing with. Some people will respond with answers they know nothing about, but some of the answers are very good. The better answerer's usually will recommend that the person does seek medical attention.
Nope. This is a perfect place to get opinions and support, and when real sources are quoted, believable facts, and that can be helpful, but sometimes those people need proffessional care.
You're not being snobbish at all!
Just wonder how many posts are made as "hoaxes"?
You can sense that some are truly Legit.and, I will offer advice, if I can, in those circumstances.
Yes, I agree. It is amazing that people would put their health in the hands of complete strangers with no identifiable medical training. I suppose that they don't have health insurance or disposable income it, but still, it is frightening. I am definitely concerned for those people. One day a lady said she was going into labor.WTF!? I don't know if she was joking or not, but for those people who aren't joking, they should seek professional help. I don't think you're being snobbish at all, I was having the same concerns. YA is no substitute for the advice of an educated, trained professional.
yes, i wonder about some of the people that ask what seems to be questions about serious health issues here. it's one thing to seek advice or an opinion about such issues, but i wonder why they would seek a diagnosis, as well as treatment without having to see a doctor, if that's what they are doing by asking here.
In a way, you're being snobbish, yes. If you think that none of us out here work in the various medical professions.
I, almost always, in my answers, will recommend that a person seek medical attention. Not every person does.
As to why they are asking on here..I think they are simply unsure whether or not, what they describe, warrants a visit to the emergency room or the doctor's office. They're simply looking for someone to tell them what they should do. Since so many of them will preface their question with "Do I need to see a doctor?".
