The government makes WAY too much money on the taxes from the sale of cigarettes. I don't understand it either. They also allow people to buy alcohol and it far more dangerous, it has a much worse effect on people than cigarettes or pot.
Drunken drivers can kill. As for people worrying about clean lungs and dirty air, look at the pollution in cities which you breath on a regular basis. How about everyone who doesn't want their air polluted to go ride public transportation instead of burning gas.
Owning an ounce of weed is legal in some areas like Denver and Alaska so I guess it isn't the awful drug some people want to make it out to be.
Weed reduces your chances of being a productive citizen. Cigarettes will likely only kill you when you're starting to get old, when you aren't paying very much in taxes anyway. because you havnt started an initive to get it on your states ballot to de-criminalise it yet. go for it.

Politics! I agree with you, I think it should be legal especially for poeple who need it for medical reasons. Why are we giving them drugs with major side effects when weed can help their pain with no side effects? Weed was first viewed as a "hippy" drug and hippys and politicians never got along. It has always been a political issue and may always be. In order to be legalized it has to be approved by government and govenment would not risk their popularity by tackling an issue like legalizing pot!
cigarettes do not alter your mind. What do you mean weed never killed anyone from second hand smoke. Check up on your info. All smoke can cause cancer, of one type or another. Since weed is not legal it is kinda hard to do the study but if you do some studying you will find alot of info. on this subject. well because we are dumb,and I don't know where you get the idea that people who smoke pot do not die from it. How can any one smoke something that turns everything black with a sticky black tar and think it's not getting in their lungs. For gods sake wise up any kind of smoking has to be bad for your lungs. If we are going to let people smoke we should also let them smoke pot and at least have money for health care from the taxes from the pot.
Ciggarettes are mind altering they do release chemicals in to your brain, but weed fucks you up, and serisouly alters your judement, and causes people to irrational and idoitic things like when under the influence of alcohol.
And also the Tobacco companies have a huge hand in the American economy and government, they are so well protected by their under the table deals that they cant be touched. And if weed was legalized they would lose out to the little dealers on the street who can grow it and sell it cheaper, or just grow it for themselves. Leagalizing weed doesn't let any high up companies who are tied in to the legislature benefit by its legalization.
What needs to happen is harsher punishement for these fithy street dealers who are ruining and killing innocent people, and only furthering the problem. They should be shot on the spot.
Here in Chicago, they're trying to ban smoking in ALL public places.
