Why does my leg cramp up sometimes while I'm sleeping?
Question:
Answers:
That sounds like your hamstring cramping up. Do you walk on concrete alot, especially in shoes without enough padding/support? Also, does your diet lack in potassium? Try perhaps using an athletic shoe (there are some great choices in new balance) that will help and also try eating bananas or peanut butter (assuming you're not allergic, of course). If you think it is more than just a simple leg cramp, you may want to see your gp.

You should ask a doctor or nutritionist.
Eat more bananas and make sure you are drinking enough water. This can be a sign of both dehydration and potassium deficiency.
That happens to me when eating beans, liver or foods high in a certain acid...and drink water to clean your system

They are called Charley Horses. They say you can get them from lack of calcium. My husband gets them.

Regular exercise will help and you are probably low on potassium. You can pick up a supplement at any health store.
You need to eat more bananas. Potassium is the reason.Or lack thereof
Frequently leg cramps are caused by electrolyte deficiencies, especially Potassium. You may be dehydrated-if this started happening in the really hot weather. In which case drinking fluids-water, orange juice and Gatorade will help. Bananas are high in potassium and can help. So does Tonic water, specifically the quinine.
Another common reason for electrolyte imbalances are high protein/low carb diets. You need fruit.
If it continues to happen see your doctor. Leg cramps can be a symptom of something serious-blood clot, DVT(deep vein thrombosis), or embolism. If you take birth control pills that would put you at higher risk for blood clots in the legs. Smoking while on BCP increases your risks.
this used to happen to me, not bananas or any other food did the trick of getting rid of it.
just do some exercise to it to condition the muscles to that kind of movement.
it is best to ask a physician.
