Answers:
That was me 15 yrs ago, then one summer I worked outside in my yard,on my house,in the garden & was moving constantly. I used hawaiian tropic lotion w/spf4-not oil but lotion & reapplied every 3 hours. Friends & family began to say "look at you, you're tanned blue eyed, red headed & not burned". Every since, its hawaiian tropic LOTION w/spf4. When I go to the beach, I do set out in full sun, but time it & change my position every 20-30 minutes so the sun won't fry me. I keep 2 umbrellas up while on the beach & stay under them in shade for 85 % of the time and get tanned from the wind-yet never burn & usually am on beach 8-10 hours a day for the week I am there.Better if you build your tan slow & gradual at home & before arriving at the beach & enjoy the beach yet do not stay in full sun, as tropic weather is hotter & will burn faster if not using some protection. After time in the sun (shower, bath) always use an after sun moisture lotion & will prolong your tan.
I am a blond-redhead and have fair skin. It depends on your skin tone, are you extremely fair? I am very fair and sunburn easily as well. The only tan I have ever gotten (although not a good one) was in Hawaii. I have jergens lotion and have tried the cosmetic "spray on" tan by coppertone, and both have worked well. Make sure you get the ones for the fair skin tone and you can layer to get a better golden glow. going to the tanning booth isnt good for our skin tones.
