What is the point of pubic hair?

Question:
i heard it's for some sort of protection, but from what exactly? Is that really the point??

Answers:
Mostly it's thought it's thermal and sun insulation for the reproductive 'goodies'. If we were to be nude, the risk of sun damage, freezing, etc. would result in lowered ability to reproduce. Also, the tissues/organs there are particularly temperature sensitive. The testicle's rising/lowering function allows the body to regulate temperature, and maximize sperm production.
It is supposed to shield you from germs and bacteria. (in a very minor way) Most gynecologists recommend not getting rid of it completely for this purpose.
