•How is a bone density test performed?•?

Question:
My friend needs to get one and wants to know if its painful. ( or if its just like an xray)
Thanks!

Answers:
No pain at all. Whether the hip or spine, the person lays on a bench and the machine slowly goes up the body and down, reading into the computer what it sees. Those results are compared with other people of the same gender and age.

Really, NO pain or discomfort. Have a yearly one!

Don't know... now I kind hoep I'm big boned cause than when I'm older I won't be so fragile.
they break one of your bones, and they read how much force it takes to do so.

it only hurts if you think having a bone broken is painful
It is a screen where you lie down and a machine goes from top to bottom and scans. No die involved, absolutely painless and takes only a few minutes. You can leave your clothes on too.
baananose is right, its just a machine, doesnt hurt, I had to have this done afew years ago due to a lack of Vit D, it's really nothing to be worried about
Painfree, please ignore the 'break a bone' reply. Sheesh! There are different types of machines used to do the scan, the one thing is that you have to go back to the place that has the same machine that you got your base line readings from. (They are not able to use info from one machine to another.) Essentially they place a foam wedge under a hip, & have the machine scan that area.
