Its a conflicting view between your brain and your body. They expect and experience different things, this disorientation can cause sickness.

No, sea sickness is not strictly in the mind. Motion sickness happens when the vehicle you are in, be it a car, boat, or plane, can be caused by an equibrium problem. I think most people use Dramamine for it before they embark.
It's an imbalance in your inner ear. Your inner is kind of like your compass. It tells your brain which way is up or down. If you aren't on solid ground it has trouble with directions and sends signals that upset your stomach. There's no real cure but you can take Dramamine to stop the sick feeling.
Sea sickness, or any motion sickness in general, has not been proven to be psychosomatic (or, made up in the person's head). Check out this website for more information:

I take Less-Drowsy Dramamine before going on long trips in a vehicle and before going to the amusement park. I also get sea sickness but I have not had a chance to see if it works for that.
There are a vareity of anti-motion sickness medications out there. If you search Yahoo or Google for sea sickness medicine, a lot of things come up.
on that myths program last week, they had one guy who truly got sick and one who just thought he would. They found the very best cure was ginger pills. I suppose you can get them at a vitamin store.
Sit under an apple tree!
The fluid in the inner ear gets shaken up. This screws with your equilibrium and causes vertigo and nausea. So no, it's strictly a physical reaction. Those that don't get it are less prone to react or are acclimated to the movement.
"Positive thinking" probably won't help much. Even the most experienced water men can get seasick occasionally. Your hubby will be eating his words when it happens to him.
no it comes from the rocking of the boat its not a disease its a motion ditraction its not a mind disease

sea sickness is not in the head at least not in the way you emply,it is caused by your body balanceing device in the inner ear it trys to hard to straighten things up and in the proccess knocks you ill.cures?..cream crackers or cold boiled potatoes does it for me,also pick a point on the horizon and concentrate on it or just stear the boat they have all worked for me. have fun
If sea sickness is in the mind then last year on the ferry I puked my brains out
Sea sickness come up when the vestibular-is organs in your ears are taking in too much information than they are use to do and the brain is overwhelmed with information about your position on earth. I am living by the sea and got use to it by sailing very much.
Keep your eyes on the horizon then the information from your ears _ the Vestibular organ and the sight correspond with each other and less sea sicknes.
if it was really just a disease of the mind how come there are tablets to help it? it could be due to an inner ear imbalance,or your body just doesn't like that kind of movement. nothing psychosamatic about that.
Seasickness is a form of motion sickness characterized by a feeling of nausea and, in extreme cases, vertigo experienced after spending time on a craft on water. It is typically brought on by the rocking motion of the craft, but people who are particularly vulnerable to the condition can feel seasick simply by setting foot on a boat, even if the vessel is in dry dock.
Seasickness can be a debilitating condition and it is extremely dangerous if the sufferer has an important role to carry out, such as steering a yacht through stormy seas while avoiding rocks and other hazards. It is also particularly hazardous for scuba divers who, through dehydration following vomiting, are at increased risk of decompression illness.
