Was it heartburn??

Question:
Please help...
A few days ago I suddenly felt sick. My chest was burning and I felt like I could throw up. I had only eaten frosted flakes a few hours before so there wasn't anything in my stomach. I had to swallow alot due to excess saliva. A few hours later it finally went away, it was really painful. Any ideas on what it was? I don't think it was heartburn because I didn't have anything in my stomach.

Answers:
It can be heartburn, but it can also be anxiety attacks. With similar symptoms, I've been diagnosed with both, depending on which doctor I asked. I felt like an arrow had been shot through my chest, even sometimes making it difficult to breathe.

This started in my 30s, and progressed to the point that I was in pain nearly every day for several years. I tried all the heartburn medications, with only minor relief. Changing my diet didn't help alot. Sleeping sitting up does help.

My solution was to stop taking the birth-control pill. I have come up with a theory that hormones may cause stress-related heartburn, which would be a 2nd explanation for why pregnant women often get it. The birth-control pill raised my stress level just like the 'last straw' on the camel's back. I am not a doctor, just saying, this worked for me.

Now I have only minor heartburn and I use Pepcid AC for occasional relief.

Things you should try:
-- Stop drinking carbonated beverages. I've found that having a beer can cause heartburn for me several hours later. I think even the next morning sometimes.
-- Never drink orange or tomato juice. I am able to drink frozen juice from Old Orchard (no added sugar). The apple-cherry is nice.
-- If you drink hard liquor or alot of coffee, try stopping that. I also stopped dairy for a while, which seemed to help somewhat.
-- If it happens again, talk to your doctor to find out if this is heartburn or anxiety attacks or something else altogether. Either way, it might be stress-related, in which case your doctor can offer solutions if this gets serious.

heart burns comes even if u dont have any thing in your stmoch.if u r above 40 take one omeperazole a day which will take care of u r problem

Sometimes my heartburn comes on hours after I've eaten. It's not always immediately after a meal. But yes, there is burning, and you feel like you could vomit and sometimes I feel like my throat is clogged. I take medication now because I was getting it way too often and alot of nights I was having to sleep sitting up on the couch. If it's a rare occurance for you I wouldn't worry about it. But if it persists you'll want to see your doctor.
