What are the steps of becoming an optometrist?

Question: I am a high school graduate and I'm interested in a career in the optometry field. What should I do to ensure that I get to where I want to be? I'm going to UC Davis this upcoming Fall and I want to know what I should major and what classes to take before I decide to go to opeometry school. Any suggestions?

Answers:
I believe the Department of Consumer Affairs handles optometric licensing in the state of California. They used to be on Howe Ave. in Sacramento but I believe they moved to the Natomas area (near Arco Arena). You can look them up on the web.
