Need help with foot to knee pain?

Question:
I play kickball and while kicking the ball I felt an instant pain start at the top of my foot and shoot up to my knee. I couldnt move or step on my foot for a good 45 seconds. The first nite I couldnt flex my foot but it got better. Its been a week and the pain is back. I was running and couldnt take any steps without pain. The pain is not constant but it does hurt when i move my foot around (I tried moving it in a circle to see where the pain comes). When trying to complete the circle my foot hurts when it goes right or left all the way up to my knee. I can walk fine however I cannot run since I run not flat footed but on my toes. Any suggestions on what the problem could be or how long I should try to stay off of it. I hate not running and even more I hate having to sit out of games. Thanks in advance everyone :)

Answers:
It could be a sprain, but see your doctor.

Since it was first felt when you kicked a ball, there could be a reason for concern. If you cracked a bone in your foot, it could cause pain like this and may not heal correctly if you don't treat it right.

its either your leg is sprained or you just had an small injury
I'm not an athlete -- so it wasn't from an injury in my case. Please see a doctor right away for your problem.

Mine (believe it or not) was caused by flat feet. I never had much of an arch but I guess, it got worse as I aged. I was on my afternoon break, stepping over the cable car tracks as I crossed the street a block from where I work when the pain hit me. Before the intense pain in my knee, I was OK. I managed to get back to the office and after work, a co-worker friend drove me to the HMO.

I was told to buy and wear over the counter orthotics in my footwear at all times (even in my slippers). It's clear plastic and cost around $55.00 or $60.00 a pair. Since using them, I haven't had any more knee problem.
