Can't get to sleep?

Question:
When I know I can be out for 10 + hours, I can take some Excedrin PM, Nyquil or drink some wine. But the problem usually comes up when I need to get up in less than 7 hours, and realize I'm not at all sleepy. Anything I take usually takes a couple of hours to work, and makes me groggy the next day if I don’t get 8 + hours.

Answers:

YEAP, you need to see a doctor. You are in too much stress.....
try just not thinking at all with your eyes closed.
Drink warm milk and read a good book. Masturbate until you get a good orgasm. I'm sure you'll sleep then. Good luck.
Try to keep a regular bed time, keep your bedroom free from distractions, make sure it's cool and dark and quiet. Having a bedtime routine helps, something to help you wind down.. don't watch some kind of thriller right before sleeping or play a computer games that makes your adrenaline pump.. just calm down :) I've never needed drugs to sleep and always get a good night's sleep this way.
take meds earlier
and drink more.
Actually, just relax a little. Give yourself some time to unwind, and try to not let your mind wander.
I like to take a benedryl...

But I can usually sleep no problem. I think the main cause of sleep problems is stress. Try to do some relaxation exercises. Lay on your back and progressively flex some of your muscles for a ten count and then slowly relax them while breathing deeply.
Go see a doctor and get good drugs Sonia
It could be sleep anxiety. You know you have to be up in less than 7 hrs, you are worried that u will feel groggy, irritable, ect. Try laying down in be 9 hrs before u have to be up. That way there, u can let your thoughts race and still get 8 hrs of sleep.
why
take one Excedrin pm when you can't sleep for 10 hours and two when you can
It takes me hours sometimes to go to sleep. I find that not eating like 4 hours before bedtime works. You will have to try to get a system of everyday go to sleep about the same time. It is hard at first, but after awhile, you will be able to get more sleep. I need like 8-9 ours of sleep myself, so if I don't get the sleep at night, I take a nap right after work to make up or it.
Well, some studies show that if you are on the computer or watching tv right before you go to bed your brain gets confused, thinking that it is daytime because the light is so bright...you should stop going on the computer and watching tv at least an half hour before you go to sleep, that way it relaxes the brain...and also you shouldn't drink caffine after 10 a.m. because it takes about 10 hours to wear off on your body.
Eat a good meal, take a walk, a hot shower, sex and you'll be out.
When I have trouble getting to sleep I usually listen to one of the sermons by Zac Poonen on the Free Stuff page @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/

It's not that he's boring or doesn't have good teaching, it's just that he has one of those "fireside chat" personalities that can lull me to sleep as I gain peace from fixing my thoughts on God.

"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:3-4
Try some chamomile tea. It's underrated, but it might work.
I use to do this when I worked graveyard shift....I just told my brain that I had to stay awake till 10am or now that I dont have a job I tell my mind Ive got to stay awake till10 am my brain usuLLY PUTS me asleep aboutt an hr............................
I would say quit the medicine and get into a routine. that way you will always sleep.
5 solid hrs sleep ......cannot compare to 12 hrs uninterrupted sleep, and medication will always give you a
'fake' sleep. you end up completely wrecked if you take something.
Nite!
Melatonin is the hormone your brain produces that puts you to sleep. You can buy it in pill form (3 mg is a common dose). It takes anywhere from 30-90 minutes to work. You can buy it at any drug store for less than $10.
Since it gets you into a deeper sleep faster you'll get a better quality of sleep in less time. Many folks take it for jet-lag or if they only have a few hours to sleep.
Also make sure your bedroom is completely dark. Light at night turns off your body's own melatonin production.
