I quit cold turkey 2 1/2 years ago. I was a pack and a half a day for 10 years. My inspiration to quit came from my children. Quitting was one of the hardest things I ever did and cold turkey doesn't work for everyone. They have patches and gum to help with the nicotine cravings, but a lot of people are addicted to the routine (example, with your morning coffee, after you eat, etc..) The best thing to do is keep your mind busy with something else during the times you would normally smoke, like go for a jog, read a book, take up gardening, etc. I found that I was even addicted to the hand-to-mouth gesture and began to substitute my cig with food. That's why a lot of peope who quit gain weight. There are ways to avoid this like holding a pencil or straw to your mouth like a cigarette. Sounds silly, I know, but it will help psychologically. I believe you can even purchase "fake" cigarettes if using a pencil or straw seems too ridiculous.
Will power is also extremely important. You have to quit because you want to and not because you are being forced or coerced to quit. Most people who try to quit when they are doing it for someone else, end up relapsing. The fact that you WANT to quit is a great sign that you can, but it will be a long hard road. 2 1/2 years later, I still fight the urge to take it back up. And those that say they don't think about it at all are flat out not telling the truth! I wish you all the success in the world!

Talk to your doctor they have alot of perscriptions out now for that stuff i know its hard i have to quit too!
I don't know, but please stop before it kills you.
Willpower, needed unlimited supply.
Try the gum, the patches anything that's there to help.

Good luck!
i feel real bad for you
i suggest u go to a doctor
they have many prescriptions but its still hard
i hope u recover and quit! :)
if your just gonna stop by your self make sure you drink LOTS of water but if not go see a doctor they will help you out.
Talk to your doctor about Wellbutrin
Zyban! folks Zyban, it works. get it.
just do it will power is the key
flush the cigarettes down the toilet
There's some new laser treatment I hear about on the radio. Look it up - I'm trying to quit and it sounds promising. Or hypnotherapy!
I say pray before anything. That is a hard thing to do . You can psyche yourself out mentally by looking at pictues of what you're doing to yourself and your lungs. Also, when you have the urge to light up just put it off a few more minutes each time. You'll learn that you can do more than you gave yourself credit for. If you're on menthols get off those suckers. Also, go down to a lighter cigarette. Hope this helps.good luck.
slowly deduct one cigarette every day from your normal daily usage
Mind over matter. More likely it is yoru mind.. use some substitute like cracker or gum instead.. or just stuff yourself full, so you can puff another one at all
limit yourself! tell your self i am only going to smoke say 20 than get only 20 keep them with you and when there gone there gone...keep your self occupied
This sounds like serious issue! .and expensive. you may need more than the usual OTC stuff. Seek professional help.
i have a idea, ok first start chewing on like straws and toothpicks. Get like freezie pops or things like that to eat when your getting an urge. Then if that doesnt work get cig chewing gum.
Try chewing tobacco or rubbing snuff first. This will stop you smoking but give you the nicotine. Then after a while stop with the chew. That's how I did it.
That's REALLY bad for you. You need to go to a re-hab. Go see a doctor about it.
There are a lot of great new ways to help smokers these days
hypnosis, there is a shot, etc. Talk to your physician and they will help you pick the right method for you.Good Luck
ask your doctor about wellbutrin.it is to help quit smoking.a friend of mine smoked 4-5 packs a day and she literally quit within a month of taking wellbutrin.she said it made her not crave a cigarette.which is great..I'm going to start taking it myself..Good Luck!!
Divide the amount of hours you are awake by 5. Then carry ony five cigarettes with you. Smoke 1 every 2 1/2 hours or so
you can try the patch or the gum, I smoked for 11 years and quit cold turkey, I just replaced my smoking habit with a different habit which is drinking alot of diet soda because I can use my hand to hold the soda and I drink from a straw so I don't miss puffing on the cig.
Give your cigarettes to someone else, so they can dosify them for you, until you are down to 5 then 4,3,2,1,0. But it has to be someone that cares about you and will be hard on the rules.
I know its really hard but the best way is cold turkey. You need a lot of willpower-Good Luck to you!
will power. wake up one morning and say your going to stop smoking. then when u crave eighther get the patch, the gum and also get the laser.
Please go to your local drug store and purchase the patch you can cut it in half at first.this is what my doctor suggested to me..and it worked please do this for you mostly and the people who love you and would love to se you around 10 years longer

goodLuck
Abhi, thats a very attractive ides. Reducing to 5.
But its not practical (possible, but not practical).

The best bet is to QUIT for once and for all.

Its tough, but if you find it worth it - then you should go for it.

1) Try Nicotine Lozenges for a first few days --> They are addictive too; but will help you break the quit into parts.

2) Patch: Excellent, non addictive, FULL QUIT STRENGTH needed on Day 1

3) www.quitnet.com --> some useful people there; like the ones here on Y! A

4) NO EVEN A BUTT IS THE RULE.
Set a date 4 months in the future and say you are not going to smoke until then. By the time's up, you'll probably be okay without them. It worked for me. Cutting down to 5 a day is no good, it's hard to maintain, and you'll inhale more deeply. Nicotine patches may help in the first week or two. Good luck, it's the right move.
Now You know how many You smoke
so every day just give yourself less and less but don't go over what you have to smoke then usually you will find that the cigarettes get less and less Until you are able to Quit
Say day one 45
Day two 40
Day three 35 etc. Good Luck
This is how my Aunt Quit
Well it all starts with you if you really want to you can do it you just have to have a soppurt system, maybe spouse or friends, and it dosent take all these fancy medicins and such it just takes will
