Is it safe to use Purell and then touch your contacts?

Question:
I have a friend who uses Purell (the instant hand sanitizer) before she removes or puts on her contacts. I'm thinking of doing this but I'm not quite sure it is safe for your eyes since it's made of alcohol.

Answers:
Thats a tricky question, it depend on the material that the eye contacts are made of. I am sure that it is mostly harmless to the eyes and contacts, as the alcohol evaps almost imiedetly. but it would be definetly safe to wait till the hands are dry. just dont put the contacts in the purell LMAO, the alcohol could remove some of the coatings such as the UV filter, and glare reducers.
However using the purell before inserting the contacts (etc) is much safer for the health of your eyes and body than if you didnt use the purell. Touching the eyes is the easiest way to spread germs, so go ahead and use the purell

Other Answers:
If she lets her hands dry completely before touching the contacts then she is probably fine. Although plain old soap and water hand washing is probably much more effective, overall. (and alcohol free)
geez do you put alcohol in your eyes too?
