How long does a wasp sting last?
Question:
Answers:
Bees, wasps, hornets, and ants inject formic acid.
The best thing to do is to wet a little baking soda and put on the sting to neutralize the acid. Ammonia works better, but may sting you also.
Bees leave the stinger in, a wasp or hornet does not.
When bees sting and lose the stinger, they die very shorly afterward because of the hole which is left in their abdomens when the stinger tears off.
Some people have an anaphylactic reaction to formic acid and cannot breathe if they get stung. They need to carry medicine (adrenaline, if I recall correctly) to give themselves an injection immediately.
You are doing everything you should be doing. You could have taken a benadryl tablet too, but it is not necessary. What happened is that you probably still had the stinget in there when you wen tot the store, and rubbing your leg together, allowed it to spread a little. I had a wasp sting keep itching for a week, and I am one of those people that likes to scratch really hard, which made me have a permanent scar on my arm. You will be alright
